Rope Access is a form of work positioning that applies practical
rope work in such a way that caters for the various needs of industry.
The layman’s term is abseiling,
but that barely touches upon what we do.
Industrial climbing may be closer to the mark. Essentially, there are
very few areas that we cannot gain access to.
Imported from France in the mid-eighties, the techniques rapidly gained
acceptance amongst both the on-shore and off-shore commercial sectors.
Originally the realm of cavers and climbers, Rope Access is now an
established industry in its own right, employing a wide variety of
tradesmen capable of performing any job.
The reason for the success of Rope Access is simple: it is very safe (fully endorsed by the HSE), rapidly deployed and de-rigged, and extremely cost-effective and non-disruptive (as compared with traditional methods such as scaffolding, gantries, lifts, cradles, and cranes). Skytek teams are self-contained, and are able to gain access and carry out their tasks with little or no involvement from outside contractors.
